Tam Ky City Police, Quang Nam Province, said they have initiated a case and prosecuted a suspect for the crime of "Illegal detention".

According to the investigation results, in 2020, Nguyen Manh Tuan invested capital in a business with a woman named N in An My ward, Tam Ky city. Since 2023, due to business losses, Tuan has repeatedly contacted Ms. N to resolve financial issues but has not been able to meet her. Tuan came up with the idea of pressuring Ms. N to meet him.

In early October 2024, Tuan prepared a pepper spray and a screwdriver to take a bus from Hoi An City to Tam Ky, to Ms. N's clothing store on Hung Vuong Street, at which time there was a female employee and Ms. N's son.

When he knew that Ms. N was not in the store, Tuan turned off the power, used pepper spray to scare the female employee to run outside, then locked the door from the inside with the intention of controlling Ms. N's son, putting pressure on the child's mother to come back to talk.

Immediately after receiving the report from the people, Tam Ky City Police deployed forces to the scene. Seeing the police force, Tuan restrained the child with the intention of threatening them if the police force broke in.

After about 20 minutes of being persuaded by the police, realizing his actions, Tuan released the child and opened the door for the police to come in and work.
