After discovering two subjects hired to transport more than 0.5kg of gold from Laos to Vietnam, with a total value of more than 1.8 billion VND, Bo Y International Border Gate Border Guard Station, Quang Ngai province, initiated a criminal case for the act of illegally transporting goods across the border.
Previously, functional forces arrested Dam Quang Vy (54 years old) and Nguyen Anh Duong (26 years old), both residing in Gia Lai province, to investigate the act of illegally transporting goods across the border.
According to information from functional agencies, at about 1:05 PM on May 30, at the Bo Y International Border Gate Joint Control Station, Bo Y International Border Gate Border Guard Station coordinated with Bo Y International Border Gate Customs and Bo Y Commune Police to inspect a passenger car driven by Vy, Duong is the assistant driver.
During the duty, the task force discovered two people with suspicious signs when entering the toilet area of the border gate complex. Through monitoring, functional forces discovered Vy throwing a package of goods wrapped tightly with black tape into a drum containing a mop to hide it.
Checking the package, the task force discovered inside two rectangular gold metal bars wrapped in transparent nylon bags. At the time of inspection, Vy and Duong confessed to hired transportation of this gold from Laos to Vietnam to deliver to an unidentified person and were paid 1 million VND. The two subjects could not present papers proving the legal origin of the gold.
Functional forces made a record of catching red-handed, temporarily detaining the two subjects and all exhibits to serve the investigation.
The forensic examination conclusion of the Sub-Institute of Criminal Science in Da Nang determined that both metal bars seized were gold. One bar weighed 256.6 grams, gold content 91.3%; the other bar weighed 282.1 grams, gold content 86%. The total amount of gold seized was 538.7 grams.
According to the results of property valuation in criminal proceedings, the total value of gold at the time of violation was more than 1.8 billion VND.
The case is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
