On June 9, the Investigation Security Agency (Quang Ngai Police) informed that after a period of consolidating the file, this unit issued a decision to prosecute Cao Dinh Lam (35 years old, residing in Khanh Hoa province) to investigate the crime of making, storing, transporting, and circulating counterfeit money.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 5 pm on May 17, 2026, a working group of Sa Huynh Border Guard Station coordinated with local police to patrol National Highway 1A, passing through the area.
Accordingly, detecting subject Cao Dinh Lam driving an electric vehicle, traveling in the South - North direction, carrying a black handbag and a suitcase with suspicious signs, they requested him to stop for inspection.
Through inspection, functional forces discovered inside the handbag and suitcase of subject Lam 424 counterfeit banknotes of 5,000 VND denomination, with a total value of over 2.7 million VND, along with many banknote images of the same denomination printed on A4 paper but not cut off.
Functional forces also discovered that this subject carried a color printer, a laptop and many other tools used to print counterfeit money.
Working with functional forces, subject Cao Dinh Lam admitted that the entire amount of 5,000 VND denomination mentioned above was counterfeit money; the tools he brought to print counterfeit money belonged to him personally.
Subject Lam said that he left his residence by electric car on May 4, carrying counterfeit money and counterfeit money printing tools to Da Nang.
In addition to the money printed at home, on the way to travel, when entering motels, subject Lam printed more counterfeit money to pay for living expenses and exchanged for real money at eateries and grocery stores.
When arriving in Sa Huynh ward, subject Lam used 10 fake banknotes (denominated 5,000 VND/note) to exchange for 50,000 VND of real money at a grocery store in the area.
At about 5 pm on May 17, while continuing to move, Lam was inspected and arrested by Sa Huynh Border Guard Station and functional forces.
According to functional agencies, Cao Dinh Lam is a subject with a previous conviction. In 2024, the subject was sentenced by the People's Court of Khanh Hoa province (old) to 3 years in prison for the crime of making, storing, and circulating counterfeit money.
