Clearing more than 1,000 houses along the North bank of the Doi Canal

The project to dredge, build infrastructure and improve the environment of the North bank of the Doi Canal (District 8) is expected to start construction on the occasion of National Day, September 2, 2025.

With a total investment of more than VND 7,400 billion, the project will reclaim more than 5.85 hectares of land in Wards 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 of District 8.

A total of 1,617 households are affected, of which 1,020 households will be completely cleared and 597 households will be partially cleared.

Up to now, the People's Committee of District 8 has contacted 1,497/1,617 cases, of which 961 households have agreed to the compensation and support plan. However, there are still 536 cases that have not been approved, mainly due to lack of consensus on land origin verification and compensation unit prices.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thuan - Head of the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of District 8 - said that the payment work is still slow due to many cases of being stuck in heritage declaration procedures.

District 8 is stepping up propaganda and mobilizing people to agree on relocation, and at the same time directing wards to quickly verify the origin of houses and land to ensure progress.

The project will build more than 4.3 km of embankments along the Doi Canal, dredging part of the canal bed to improve flow and environmental sanitation. The two canalside routes, Hoai Thanh and Nguyen Duy, will be expanded to 20 m, helping to increase the ability to connect internal traffic.

In addition, the project also includes many important infrastructure items: construction of an extended Nguyen Duy route (16 m wide, from alley 157 Hung Phu to Chu Y bridge), Hiep An 2 bridge, ...

It is expected that by 2028, the entire project will be completed, contributing to reducing flooding and pollution and bringing a new look to District 8.

VND8,614 billion to renovate Van Thanh canal

Along with Doi Canal, Van Thanh Canal - a long-standing polluted canal in Binh Thanh is also about to be renovated with a total estimated investment of VND 8,614 billion.

The project has completed the pre-feasibility study report and is being submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City Appraisal Council.

The project will renovate the main route of Van Thanh canal, 2 km long (from Vo Oanh street to Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal) and a 275 m long branch of the canal.

The main items include: building concrete embankments on both sides of the canal, dredging the canal bed 25 - 50 m wide, 3 m deep; building a road along the canal 6 - 20 m wide; building a new Phu An bridge 17 m wide; upgrading and expanding Ngo Tat To road to 25 m.

The project will also open a parallel road connecting to Dien Bien Phu Street, investing in a park and green space system with an area of about 4.2 hectares. At the same time, the domestic drainage system, rainwater and wastewater collection will be completely built.

The total area of land to be recovered is more than 7.47 hectares, with about 1,065 households affected. Of which, 772 households will be completely cleared. Compensation, support and resettlement costs account for the majority - about VND6,870 billion.

The project is divided into two phases: In the 2025 - 2026 period, the project will focus on site clearance, requiring allocation of about VND 6,887 billion; in the 2026 - 2030 period, construction and settlement will be implemented with a budget of about VND 1,727 billion.
