According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, the North-South high-speed railway section passing through Ho Chi Minh City is about 17 km long, with two main highlights: Thu Thiem Station (greater than 17 hectares) and Long Truong Depot (more than 60 hectares).
This railway line will run parallel to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, passing through the An Phu intersection on the Mai Chi Tho axis, before turning into Thu Thiem station - the final stop on the more than 1,500 km journey from Hanoi.
The project will reclaim about 110.6 hectares of land, including 20.7 hectares of land for perennial crops, 0.86 hectares of urban land, the rest is land for other purposes.
In particular, 61 households within the project area will have to be relocated to serve the site clearance work.
The total cost of compensation and site clearance is estimated at more than VND 2,100 billion.
Mr. Vo Trung Truc - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the city has assigned specialized units to review and develop a plan to prepare the site, in order to be ready to coordinate synchronously with other provinces and cities where the route passes through.
However, the specific implementation is still waiting for the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction) to hand over the boundary to serve as a basis for counting, measuring, compensation payment and resettlement organization.

Previously, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc directed the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance to coordinate with relevant units to propose a plan to assign investors, establish and appraise compensation projects for the railway section passing through the city. At the same time, the Department of Finance is also assigned the task of advising on capital allocation for implementation.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested the Department of Construction to review the project boundary, avoid overlapping with other planning, and at the same time study and integrate urban development models according to the orientation of public transport (TOD) in two key areas, Thu Thiem Station and Long Truong Depot.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to inspect, compare land use planning, and develop compensation plans associated with TOD planning in these two areas.
The North-South high-speed railway line has a total length of about 1,541 km, starting from Ngoc Hoi station (Hanoi) and ending at Thu Thiem station (HCMC).
The project uses 1,435 mm of double track, with a design speed of up to 350 km/h, with 23 passenger stations and 5 cargo stations.
The total preliminary investment for the entire route is about 1.7 million billion VND (equivalent to 67 billion USD), using public investment capital combined with other legal capital sources. The entire route is expected to be completed in 2035.
