Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has shown determination after quickly completing two new contracts this summer. And of course, they have not stopped as they are targeting many other potential stars.
The first new signing in the 2024 summer transfer window for the "Red Devils" is Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch striker arrived at Old Trafford for £42.5 million from Bologna.
A few days later, Man United even surpassed Real Madrid to get 18-year-old centre-back Leny Yoro from Lille. The French centre-back moved to Old Trafford for £52 million and a five-year contract.
Meanwhile, Man United are also said to be getting closer to recruiting PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte for £38 million.
So, how will coach Erik ten Hag arrange the squad in the new season?
Method 1
Zirkzee's arrival could affect Rasmus Hojlund's playing time. Zirkzee possesses similar qualities to Hojlund in terms of speed and finishing ability, and can stretch the opponent's defense.
Despite scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists last season, the Dutchman is not a traditional "number 9".
The biggest difference between Zirkzee and Hojlund is that the striker likes to drop deep to receive the ball in the midfield area and find ways to link up the play.
Method 2
There will be no place for Zirkzee in this system because Hojlund seems to be more suitable. In fact, the Danish striker has had a season of getting acquainted at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford will also be trusted in the attack after a forgettable 2023-2024 season. On the opposite wing, young talent Alejandro Garnacho is likely to take a starting position.
In midfield, Ugarte is likely to be more trusted than Casemiro if he joins Old Trafford. The Brazilian veteran could even be out this summer despite a two-year contract.
Another New Man United signing has also been added to the squad, with Leny Yoro playing as a central defender alongside Lisandro Martinez.
Method 3
If he is confused about whether to choose Zirkzee or Hojlund, Ten Hag can use both in attack at the same time. The Norwegian striker will take charge of scoring, while Zirkzee tends to retreat deeper. Like the situation of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, although this pair played in a 3-4-3 formation at Tottenham.
In this attacking formation arrangement, Mainoo or Ugarte will have to sit on the bench. After what he has shown, it seems that the English midfielder will be given priority.
In the context of Rashford's uncertain future, Garnacho could switch to his preferred left wing, while Jadon Sancho takes over the right wing like at Dortmund.
With Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese player will play a supporting role for the two highest spearheads in the attack.
