After failing to score in his last 17 games under Erik ten Hag, Bruno Fernandes has now scored four times under caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Fernandes opened the scoring in United's 3-0 win over Leicester in the Premier League, ending Van Nistelrooy's short spell in charge with three wins from four games.
Ruben Amorim will officially become the head coach of Man United. And clearly, he will need the Portuguese midfielder to continue to show the form he has shown so far.
"It's been a long time since I scored and now the goals have come in the last few games. Another clean sheet is important for us to regain the fortress we had here. We have to continue doing that and we have to improve.
"It's a new era, a new manager which means everything changes, but what doesn't change is that this club has to get back to where it belongs," Fernandes said after the win over Leicester.
The new Manchester United board have placed their faith in Amorim to turn the club around and they expect Fernandes to lead the line and play a central role.
The Portuguese midfielder was handed a new contract in August, keeping him at Old Trafford until 2027. The deal comes with a significant pay rise that makes him one of the Red Devils' highest earners, alongside Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, meaning that, regardless of who the manager is, Fernandes will remain a central figure.
Amorim will have to find a role for Fernandes in his team, even if it means changing positions. The 30-year-old is best played as a 'number 10', but Amorim prefers to use two wingers. They are creative players, which suits Fernandes, but require tactical discipline.
Whether under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or Ten Hag, Fernandes has been given the freedom to roam, and he has enjoyed this freedom, contributing to 100 goals in 170 Premier League games since joining United in 2020.
The Portuguese international will have to adapt to Amorim. There is no doubting Fernandes' versatility, but he has also faced criticism for his lack of tactical understanding.
Appointed mid-season, Amorim will not make any major changes until January as United continue to struggle with a tight budget.
Therefore, Fernandes will be the key to Amorim's hopes of early success. If he continues to maintain his impressive form, the "Red Devils" will have more confidence in a new start.
"It's an important three points. In four games, Bruno Fernandes has scored some important goals, as well as assists. He's back and he's creating a lot of goals. It's Bruno Fernandes who is helping the team the most," said Van Nistelrooy.
