The English Football Association (FA) is actively looking for a replacement for Gareth Southgate. Several coaches have been linked with the "Three Lions" leadership such as Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Lee Carsley, Mauricio Pochettino, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Ange Postecoglou.
The FA has set out seven specific requirements for candidates, including a UEFA professional coaching license and extensive experience in English football.
They also want a "special leadership house" with "strength and integrity", someone with "high resilience" to cope with pressure from fans.
So what have the candidates who are expected to take up the job in the England team said in the past?
Eddie Howe
Speaking during Newcastle's pre-season tour to Germany, a few days after Southgate's departure, Howe said he was delighted to stay at St James' Park.
"My commitment to Newcastle has not been waverable and has been since I arrived at the club. As long as I have certain things for myself like being happy, I am allowed to work the way I need to to maximize my abilities and I feel supported, that will never change.
There have been so many changes that we need a period of time to know how we will work and set the line. This is for Newcastle's benefit, not mine because the club is the most important of all these. England is not important. It's all about Newcastle," Howe said.
Graham Potter
Graham Potter has refused to answer speculation surrounding his ability to lead the England team when he received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Leeds Beckett.
The former Chelsea coach told BBC: "I don't think today is the right day to talk about that. I think Gareth Southgate did a great job. I don't think anyone in this country is more respected than Southgate in football. He has led the team really, really well and I have great respect for him.
Today is the day to wish Southgate a great vacation, because he deserves it. And I wish Southgate all the best in anything he does in the next phase of his career."
Ange Postecoglou
Former Australian coach Postecoglou is also away from speculation linking him with the "Three Lions" leadership role.
"I'm in pre-season and Tottenham's manager, so I have nothing else in mind than trying to make this club successful.
Until I can do that, I have no reason to think about anything else" - Postecoglou affirmed.
Candidates have until August 2 to submit their applications for the England coaching position. The "Three Lions" will play their next match on September 7 against Ireland in the Nations League.
