On the evening of December 26, Chelsea hosted Fulham at home in round 18 of the Premier League.
The Blues had more possession early in the first half, but it was Fulham who posed the more threatening threat. Antonee Robinson was involved in nearly every attack, trying to find space in the Chelsea defence.
In the 15th minute, Cole Palmer skillfully dribbled past Fulham defenders and fired a low shot to open the scoring for the home team at Stamford Bridge. In the following minutes, Chelsea regained the initiative and put pressure on.
Levi Colwill headed the ball into the Fulham net early in the second half, but unfortunately he was caught offside. The visitors responded mainly with crosses, but it was enough to distract the Blues' defence.
In the 82nd minute, Wilson moved smartly and headed home from Timothy Castagne's pass. It was Fulham's first goal at Stamford Bridge since 2011. It seemed like the two teams would share the points in a draw, but in the 5th minute of injury time, Rodrigo Muniz's cross shot left goalkeeper Robert Sanchez with no chance to save.
In the end, Fulham won a spectacular 2-1 victory. This was their first win at Stamford Bridge in 45 years, taking the team up to 8th place in the rankings, just 1 point behind Newcastle in 5th place.
For their part, Enzo Maresca and his team missed the opportunity to close the gap with the top team Liverpool. They are still 4 points behind The Reds, and are at risk of losing the top 2 after round 18.
