Liverpool hosted League Two side Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round on the evening of January 11. Despite only having to face an opponent playing in the fourth division of English football, coach Arne Slot still fielded a strong squad, including Alexander-Arnold, Tsimikas, Szoboszlai...
Several other stars such as Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Graveberch were rested and were not included in the squad for this match.
As expected, Liverpool had a fairly easy match. In the 29th minute, Jota tapped the ball into the net from close range after a pass from Nunez. The tempo of the match was average but Accrington still struggled to threaten the home team's goal.
In the 45th minute, Alexander-Arnold scored a masterpiece with a long-range shot into the top corner, doubling the gap for Liverpool.
In the second half, Federico Chiesa came on for Szoboszlai and played very energetically. In the 76th minute, Chiesa's shot was pushed away by the goalkeeper, Jayden Danns rushed in at the right time to score into an empty net.
In the 90th minute, after much effort, Chiesa put his name on the scoreboard with a low shot from a distance of more than 20 meters. This was also his first goal in a Liverpool shirt since moving in the summer.
A 4-0 win will see Arne Slot's side progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a positive performance. The draw for the fourth round will be made after the third round has ended.
