Cucurella reveals why Chelsea is no longer playing explosively

HƯNG TÌNH |

After a series of disappointing matches for Chelsea, defender Cucurella assessed that opponents are playing more cautiously when facing the London team.

In round 24 of the Premier League, Chelsea beat West Ham 2-1. Although the victory brought The Blues back to the top 4, they certainly cannot rest assured. Because in the last 8 matches, coach Enzo Maresca and his team have only won 2 matches.

Defender Marc Cucurella believes that being guarded by opponents has prevented Chelsea from playing as well as they did in the past. He was quoted by The Mirror as saying: “I think a lot of teams now come here to play defensively and counter-attack. When you have 10 or 11 players defending, it’s difficult. But we need to stick to our plan and be patient.

Against West Ham we did well and came back. That was important because now teams are starting to respect us. They know they can't play against Chelsea, so they want to defend in numbers."

Chelsea are making a pretty impressive comeback this season. They have a great chance to win the Europa Conference League and have reached the fourth round of the FA Cup. However, the battle for the top four in the Premier League will not be simple, as Man City, Newcastle and Nottingham are competing fiercely.

Marc Cucurella expressed Chelsea's confidence: "I think we are here to win trophies. This is a big club and the goal is always to win trophies. We are doing well in this process and there is still a lot of time. We need to focus and work hard game by game, thereby achieving the desired goal."
