Former Indonesian U23 player arrested

Former Indonesian U23 player Syakir Sulaiman was arrested by police on charges of drug possession and trafficking.

CNN Indonesia reported: "Syakir Sulaiman (32 years old), a resident of Cilaku district, was arrested by police on November 5, while staying at a resort in West Java, Indonesia.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Cianjur Police - AKP Tono Listianto stated that the police received a report from the surrounding people when they noticed that Syakir Sulaiman had signs of storing and illegally trading drugs. An in-depth investigation was conducted and the arrest of the subject was also deployed immediately after.

Searching Syakir Sulaiman's residence, the police discovered 2,700 pills of various drugs, including 1,700 tramadol pills and 1,000 eximer pills. When arrested, Syakir Sulaiman did not resist and admitted that he had committed his acts in the past 2 years due to financial difficulties.

Syakir Sulaiman could face a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison under Indonesian law. Police are currently hunting a major drug dealer who supplied Syakir Sulaiman with illegal drugs.

Syakir Sulaiman was named the best young player of the 2013 Indonesia Super League (ISL), received a one-week trial invitation from Ventforet Kofu (Japan), and was a mainstay of the Indonesian U23 team in the 2013-2014 period.

Syakir once participated in the 2014 Asian Games with the Indonesian Olympic team, but after that, due to his poor performance, he was not called up to the national team.

At the age of 32, Syakir Sulaiman is playing for Aceh United.Throughout his career, this player has played for several Indonesian clubs, starting with PSBS Bireuen, Persiraja Banda Aceh, Persiba Balikpapan, Sriwijaya FC, Bali United and finally Aceh United.
