The English Football Association (FA) is negotiating with Thomas Tuchel to lead the "Three Lions", according to British media. England is currently led by interim coach Lee Carsley, who has won 2 of the last 3 matches.
However, England were unimpressive in their most recent game, losing 2-1 to Greece at Wembley. Carsley daringly experimented with the formation in the absence of Harry Kane but failed to make a difference. The all-out attack of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer was ineffective.
Tuchel, meanwhile, could opt for a very different style to the caretaker manager if he is appointed. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss has often used a 3-4-3 formation, which could give some forgotten stars a chance.
Mason Mount has not been called up to the England squad since the 2022 World Cup. However, the Manchester United player had a successful time under Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
Under Tuchel, Mount scored 19 goals in 87 appearances in all competitions and won the Champions League in 2021.
If Tuchel is appointed to the England hot seat, he could get the best out of Mount. However, the midfielder needs to return and improve his form for Man United after a series of injuries.
The German tactician could also recall Ben Chilwell, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Eric Dier. Luke Shaw is widely regarded as England's best left-back but has struggled with injuries. Meanwhile, Chilwell was Tuchel's first choice when he was in charge of the Blues. The full-back has 21 caps for England.
Loftus-Cheek could return to the team to partner Declan Rice in midfield. The former Chelsea man has been excellent since moving to AC Milan, scoring 10 goals in 48 appearances.
Meanwhile, Dier was Tuchel's student at Bayern Munich. He is often used in a three-man defense. Reece James is another player who could benefit if Tuchel takes charge of the "Three Lions".
If the Chelsea star regains fitness, he will surely be an alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.
