Overview
Coach Eddie Howe hopes Newcastle United can maintain their momentum when hosting Tottenham Hotspur in decline at home.
Last weekend, Newcastle ended a 9-match winless streak away from home with an impressive 4-1 victory over Everton in the Premier League. Malick Thiaw scored twice with a header, while Lewis Miley and Nick Woltemade also recorded their names on the scoreboard at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Newcastle's first away win in the Premier League this season extended their positive run of results, following an impressive 2-1 win over Manchester City in St. Petersburg. James' Park, where Harvey Barnes' double made the difference.
Amid those two domestic victories, Howe's side suffered a 1-2 defeat to Marseille in the UEFA Champions League, but this did not reduce their confidence in returning to the domestic arena.
Howe has reason to be optimistic ahead of the Tottenham game, as Newcastle have won 11 of their 16 Premier League home games in 2025 (69%). This is the fifth best home record in the club's history in the competition. And it is worth noting that two of the years with the best wins have come under Howe (in which 2023 reached 70%, with 14 wins from 20 games).
In addition, Howe has also clearly dominated the confrontations with Thomas Frank. The English coach has won 6/8 of his most senior matches against Frank (1 draw, 1 loss), all of which took place when Frank was in charge of Brentford before moving to Spurs.
Bruno Guimaraes continues to be an important support for the home team. The Brazilian midfielder has been directly involved in 11 goals in his last 19 home Premier League games (7 goals, 4 assists). He is also having an impressive streak of form when contributing his footsteps to the goal in 3 consecutive matches at St. Petersburg. James' Park.
However, Newcastle also have to be wary of another Brazilian star on the opposite side, Richarlison. The Spurs striker has been involved in six goals in 10 Premier League meetings with Newcastle (4 goals, 2 assists).
Frank's side have shown their formidable form away from North London, having won 13/18 of their most away points in the Premier League this season. In particular, they are unbeaten in all four away games outside London (W3 D1).
Head-to-head record
Tottenham have lost their last three Premier League games against Newcastle - their worst run of results against the Magpies since April 2006 to December 2008, when Spurs lost six in a row.
More effectively, Newcastle have won five of their last six Premier League meetings with Tottenham (losing one), equivalent to the number of wins they have in their previous 17 meetings (D2 L10).
Howe's side have also won all three of their last home games against Spurs with a double, in complete contrast to their previous 11-game run at St. Petersburg. James' Park, where Newcastle have won just twice (3 draws, 6 losses).
In the most recent Premier League meeting between the two sides in September 2024, goals from Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak helped Newcastle win 2-1 against Spurs at St. Petersburg. James' Park.
