Indonesian coach wants press to put pressure on naturalized star

Coach Shin Tae-yong wants the Indonesian team to have the service of a naturalized star right in the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Cup.

On the evening of December 13, the Indonesian team was unexpectedly held to a 3-3 draw by Laos in Group B - ASEAN Cup (formerly known as AFF Cup) 2024.

Coach Shin Tae-yong's players were caught in a tight race twice. They then took a 3-2 lead despite playing with one less player after Ferdinan received two yellow cards. But Laos eventually equalized before the end of the match.

After the match, Mr. Shin Tae-yong made a remarkable statement. He asked the media to put pressure on him to summon additional naturalized stars to participate in the ASEAN Cup 2024 as soon as possible.

"We want to call Ivar Jenner and the Indonesian Football Federation is still trying. We want reporters to write articles so that Jenner can immediately be called up to the Indonesian team," the Korean coach shared in the press conference room.

Ivar Jenner is a player who plays in the Netherlands, but his club has not agreed to let him return to the national team. He was trained at Ajax and is currently playing for the Utrecht youth team.

Previously, Jenner was a mainstay of the Indonesian team in the 3rd qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. According to the original plan, it was not until December 21 that the home team allowed Jenner to return home, meaning he would not be able to compete in the group stage of the ASEAN Cup.

In addition, regarding Indonesia's performance, coach Shin Tae-yong said: "Both teams played well. The Indonesian team made mistakes that forced us to accept a draw. Unfortunately, I have to apologize to the Indonesian fans, especially those who came to watch live.

As for Ferdinan's performance, this was his worst match that I have ever witnessed."
