Recently, coach Shin Tae-yong and PSSI have gone through the final procedures to terminate their working contract together. Accordingly, the Korean coach received a large compensation when saying goodbye to the team of the archipelago.
Bola reported that the 54-year-old captain’s salary when he signed the contract extension with PSSI was around 1.5 million USD/year, equivalent to 125 thousand USD/month (about 3.1 billion VND). Therefore, PSSI will have to pay all the remaining salary of the old contract until 2027.
This figure is expected to be up to 3.6 million USD (about 90 billion VND) for the remaining 2.5 years of the contract. This is a huge amount and much higher than the average salary of coaches working in Southeast Asia.
Immediately after receiving compensation and finishing all work, coach Shin Tae-yong and 8 assistants returned to Korea, including Yeom Ki-hun, Kim Jong-jin, Kim Bong-soo, Choi Ju-young, Shin Sang-gyu, Choi In-cheol, Yoo Jae-hoon, Jeong Seok-seo.
In a video posted on his personal page, the former head coach of the Indonesian national team said: "Hello, I am Shin Tae-yong. After 5 years, I will return to Korea. To Indonesian football fans and all Indonesian people, I thank you very much.
Although I have to leave with a little regret, I love Indonesia and will always love this country. I hope the Indonesian national team players will have more good things in the future and hope they will win tickets to the 2026 World Cup to play on that big stage.
I will be traveling back and forth between Korea and Indonesia. Of course, I will always support the Indonesian team. I am very grateful. Thank you very much."
After firing coach Shin Tae-yong, PSSI appointed Dutch coach Patrick Kluivert.
