Returning to his former club Dortmund on loan until the end of the season, Jadon Sancho contributed greatly to helping the Bundesliga representative reach the Champions League semi-finals. The England international had to leave Old Trafford after a conflict with Erik ten Hag.
In the early morning of 2.5 (Vietnam time), Dortmund will host Paris St Germain at home in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals. Sancho and his teammates will clearly be determined to reach the final at Wembley.
Being forced to return to Dortmund is helping Sancho arouse his playing spirit. In 2021, the player born in 2000 joined Old Trafford with high expectations and a price of 72 million pounds. However, before the scandal with Ten Hag broke out, Sancho did not leave much of an impression on the pitch.
Since making his mark in Dortmund's 3-0 win over Darmstadt on 13 January, the 24-year-old has featured in 16 of their next 19 games. Of the 3 matches Sancho missed, one was due to illness, one was due to muscle problems and the other was on the bench.
Basically, Sancho is an important factor for Dortmund if he is in the best physical condition. Confidence and joy have returned to the Englishman at Signal Iduna Park. The striker has also contributed 3 goals and 2 assists for Dortmund in recent times.
By comparison, despite having to miss 4 months at Old Trafford, Sancho is still on par with Antony this season. According to British media, Ten Hag's favor of the Brazilian player is the reason why Sancho is upset.
Sancho is clearly happy at Signal Iduna Park, despite Edin Terzic's side struggling in the Bundesliga this season. They are currently ranked fifth in the tournament, 5 points behind fourth-placed RB Leipzig.
Terzic also admitted that Sancho is still not at his best form, but after a long absence, that is understandable.
"Both Jadon Sancho and I felt he wasn't at his best, but it was completely normal. We know that. Sancho is trying every training session and showing his extraordinary talent," said the Dortmund coach.
If Ten Hag is sacked this summer, Sancho will have the opportunity to return to Man United. This depends on whether the next "captain" at Old Trafford wants to give Sancho a chance or not. Otherwise, the "Red Devils" will try to minimize the damage by selling off Sancho.
Having a hard time getting into the England squad for EURO 2024, Sancho's focus will be on the Champions League.
Sancho said: "We just need to focus on what is ahead. We have to be humble at this time. We need to give our all to reach the final. I'm just focused on the next game and that's how we're going to approach it, one game at a time."
Sancho set a Bundesliga record after scoring against RB Leipzig last weekend. The 40th goal in the tournament helped Sancho officially become the English player with the most goals in Bundesliga history. This achievement surpasses the former winger of Cologne, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, Tony Woodcock.
