The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) fired coach Dorival Junior last month and is looking for a replacement.
According to ESPN, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has long been a priority for CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues, right after Mr. Tite resigned after the 2022 World Cup. Now, they have once again expressed their interest in the Italian coach.
However, the problem is that Mr. Ancelotti still has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2026. His position is shaky after the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Arsenal.
Madrid are still in the race for the La Liga championship but are 4 points behind leaders Barcelona. But with their current form, they are unlikely to make a surprise. The Copa del Rey final between Real Madrid and Barcelona is considered a turning point, because if Los Blancos fail, Mr. Ancelotti could be fired.
Talks between the CBF representative and the Ancelotti representative have also been resumed in recent weeks. The Federation also had a conversation with Ancelotti's son, Davide, about working in Brazil.
However, neither the CBF nor coach Ancelotti will make any move until their future at Madrid is resolved.
In addition to Mr. Ancelotti, the number 1 candidate, CBF is also following Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus. Jesus has a contract with Al Hilal until after the FIFA Club World Cup but could reach an agreement to leave Saudi Arabia next month to lead the Brazilian team.
CBF wants to quickly find the right person to prepare for the matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
