Arsenal host Newcastle at the Emirates in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, with the eventual winners advancing to the final at Wembley in March, where they will face either Tottenham or Liverpool.
Arsenal extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 13 games, but were disappointed to only manage a draw against Brighton. However, the Gunners are still in the race for the Premier League title.
Having to compete in the English League Cup will make Mikel Arteta and his team busier. But this is also an opportunity for them to win their first title after 5 consecutive seasons without a trophy.
On the other side, Newcastle beat Brentford to reach the semi-finals. The Magpies benefited from the Bees having to rotate their squad significantly in the quarter-finals. Eddie Howe's side have also been in good form of late.
They have won all five of their last games, scoring a total of 11 goals and conceding just one. Newcastle are now one of the contenders for the top four. They will be a formidable opponent for Arsenal. In November, Newcastle beat the Gunners 1-0 in the Premier League.
