Brighton got off to a perfect start under Fabian Hurzeler, with an overwhelming 3-0 win over Everton. They also soon have the top position in the 2024-2025 Premier League rankings.
The 31-year-old German coach described it as "the perfect result" and the club followed that up by spending £40m on Georginio Rutter from Leeds to strengthen an already talented squad.
Hurzeler will now look to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor Roberto De Zerbi, who led Brighton to three consecutive wins last season. That will require a significant improvement on the Seagulls' form at the end of last season at the Amex Stadium, where they lost four of their last five Premier League matches (winning one).
They didn't even score a goal in each of those defeats, one of which was on the final day against Manchester United - who they face tonight.
Before that result, Brighton became the third team in Premier League history to win 4 consecutive matches against Man United. 3 of those losses took place under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, but the Dutch strategist somewhat relieved the pressure with a 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day.
That result, Ten Hag said, would give his team "a platform to build on".
The next challenge for Ten Hag is to win the first away match of the season, something he has not done in the past two seasons at Man United (lost 2). In both losses, they did not score.
It's been a persistent problem for the Red Devils, who have only won their first Premier League away game once in the last six seasons (drew 2, lost 3), despite the only win being arrived before Brighton in the 2020-2021 season.
