No star has earned more money than Kylian Mbappe in the past 2 years with a bustling contract at Paris St Germain. But the Frenchman has denied the chance to make big money to pursue his dream at the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old will earn £26.3 million a year and is the player with the highest salary at Real Madrid. However, Mbappe's salary is lower than Barcelona's duo Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong. The Polish striker is currently the second highest-paid player in the tournament with 28.2 million pounds/year, while De Jong is 31.6 million pounds/year.
Besides Mbappe, 5 other Los Blancos players are also in the top 10 highest-paid stars in La Liga.
While Mbappe's basic salary is only slightly higher than his new teammates at Real, he will receive about 150 million Euros in signing fees paid over the next 5 years.
Mbappe will also retain most of his image rights at the Bernabeu. The 25-year-old's copyright image is very valuable for brands such as Nike, Hublot, Orange, EA Sports and Dior. These contracts are currently worth around €30 million a season, far exceeding his club salary.
The contract with Real Madrid allows Mbappe to keep 100% of his income from the contracts he signed before joining the club and 80% from subsequent contracts. The move to the Bernabeu will also help Mbappe "play" his name and get more fertile commercial contracts.
"It's a great feeling to be here, it's great. I have spent countless nights dreaming of a day playing for Real Madrid and today I am a happy guy" - Mbappe said at his Real Madrid debut.
