The joy of the Argentina team's 2024 Copa America championship was quickly put aside because of the controversial incident of some players.
Their celebration caused outrage with French football and many of its players, when Enzo Fernandez broadcast live with his teammates singing a song containing racist words.
Enzo has currently been criticized by the Chelsea club, and is conducting internal disciplinary work. Some Chelsea teammates have unfollowed Enzo's Instagram.
Notably, captain striker Lionel Messi is not in this video because he stayed in the US and did not return to Argentina with the team. However, he is mentioned as the captain of the national team.
Argentine Deputy Minister of Sports - Mr. Julio Garro - said that both Messi and Chiqui Tapia, President of AFA (Argentina) should come forward and apologize for the players' actions.
"The national team captain must come out and apologize. So should the AFA president," the politician told Corta.
“The issue of asking for forgiveness to have an exemplary punishment has not yet reached the big tournaments, to show society that football also needs that. Currently, this is still very loose."
These statements by Julio Garro caused such a stir that he later had to adjust his 'X' account, denying that he had asked Messi to apologize.
In this case, the French Football Federation sent a complaint to FIFA.
