Closing the ASEAN Cup 2024, Cambodian football still has many questions about the two goals conceded by the national team in the match against Singapore in the group stage (on December 10, 2024). In both of these goals, goalkeeper Vireak Dara made a careless mistake with the same scenario of clearing the ball, creating an opportunity for the opponent to score from close range.
If not for these two goals, Cambodia would have had a better result when they created a game that put pressure on the opponent.
At that time, the General Secretary of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) - Mr. Keo Sareth confirmed that he would open an investigation into this goalkeeper, but after more than a month, the case had no new developments, causing great public pressure on the FFC leadership.
Most recently, the Thmey Thmey newspaper (Cambodia) posted an update with new information. Secretary General Keo Sareth confirmed: "We divided the investigation process into two parts. The first part is to review internal technical aspects, and the second part will investigate suspicions of match-fixing."
It is understood that the FFC has referred the case to the Royal Police for investigation.
Thmey Thmey newspaper also commented that this is the first time in history that FFC has launched a large-scale investigation with the participation of the National Police. Previously, there were also suspicious cases but there was no clear evidence, the scale was not as large as this time.
"Up to now, only internal meetings have been held but no final conclusions have been reached. We are still waiting. Whether positive or negative, we will have an answer for the fans and sponsors of the team, right after the official results," Mr. Keo Sareth affirmed.
The investigation into match-fixing and match-fixing in football shows Cambodia's determination to maintain the fairness and purity of this sport.
At the ASEAN Cup 2024, the Vietnamese team won the championship. The runner-up position belonged to the Thai team. Meanwhile, the Cambodian team had to stop right at the group stage when they finished 4th in Group A.
