Qatar plans to deploy tens of thousands of security personnel to ensure a smooth World Cup. The 2022 World Cup host has signed many security cooperation agreements with a number of countries, in the context that more than 1.2 million people from all over the world will visit Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
Before the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup, the Qatari security forces, together with partners from 13 countries, conducted a 5-day security drill across the country.
The Peninsula local newspaper said the drill was aimed at testing the readiness and response of emergency services.
According to the tournament's security committee, the exercise, called Watan (meaning national in Arabian), has the participation of 32,000 government security personnel and 17,000 personnel from private units.
Turkey has previously said it will send more than 3,000 anti-violence police to Qatar to help secure stadiums and hotels.
Turkey - Qatar's ally in the region will also send 100 special police officers, 50 bomb disposal experts and 80 service dogs to Qatar.
In January this year, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman soylu said that Turkey had also trained 677 Qatari security personnel in 38 different fields of expertise, but did not provide specific details.
During the tournament, Turkish police will only receive direct orders from the country's superiors. All costs will be paid by Qatar.
In August, Pakistan agreed to send troops to Qatar to ensure security throughout the tournament. The Pakistan army arrived in Doha in early November, according to confirmed by Pakistan Radio. However, it is unclear how many soldiers Pakistan has deployed to the Gulf country.
Also in the past 11 months, the French parliament has approved the deployment of about 220 security personnel to the Gulf country to serve the tournament. The French interior ministry said the deployment would ensure the security of fans, including French citizens.
Qatar has also signed a security cooperation agreement with Morocco, as confirmed by the African country. In addition, since the end of last year, the Marquis media has also said that the country will send cybersecurity experts to Qatar during the 2022 World Cup.
