Cristiano Ronaldo was named the greatest player of all time in a poll organized by Sky Sports, after beating Lionel Messi by a very small margin.
More than 483,000 fans around the world participated in this survey and Ronaldo won 36% of the votes, just 1% more than Messi, equivalent to more than 5,000 votes.
The third place went to Diego Maradona with 17% of the votes, which was considered a somewhat surprising result as many expected the Argentine legend to rank higher. Meanwhile, "The Football King" Pele only received 12%, ranking last in the group of 4 legends voted.
The race between Ronaldo and Messi in this type of election is no longer strange to fans. The two superstars have continuously exchanged their number one positions over the years and platforms.
Typically, in 2022, Messi won an overwhelmingly high in the GOAL50 survey with 9 million participants, while Ronaldo was only behind. However, less than a year later, CR7 reversed the situation with a victory that took 52% of the votes in another 3.8 million-person poll.
Although considering individual and collective titles, Ronaldo and Messi both own a huge collection at the club level, but at the national team level, Messi is a bit better. He won the 2022 World Cup, finished second in 2014 and contributed greatly to Argentina's overall success. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has never gone far in World Cups.
In fact, it is difficult to determine who is the greatest player in the history of football, because each person has their own values and impressions. However, Cristiano Ronaldo's continued to win the number one spot in a major vote shows his lasting influence in the hearts of global fans.
