Man United only scored 1 goal from the penalty spot thanks to Bruno. Otherwise, they did not have any shots on target in open play. The away team dominated the game for most of the match.
The result means Amorim and his players have suffered four home defeats in the Premier League since taking over as head coach from Erik ten Hag, who was sacked at the end of October 2024.
"We have a new coach who has more failures than his predecessor. I am fully aware of that. I will not change, no matter what.
I know Man United can be successful, but the team needs to overcome moments like this. I'm not naive about the situation of the team. We are probably the worst team in the history of Man United. I accept that and I want to change that."
Amorim has now lost seven of his 15 games since replacing Erik ten Hag. United are 13th in the table, 10 points above the relegation zone.
“Everyone here underperforms, no matter what the circumstances, we underperform and we have to accept that.
It is unacceptable that we lose so many games. Imagine what it is like for a Man United fan. Imagine what it is like for me. We have to keep going, there is no other way,” added the Portuguese coach.
The numbers speak for themselves
- At this stage of the season (after 22 games), only 13 Man United sides have had lower points totals in the club's history - the last being in 1986-87
- After 12 home games this season, Man United have lost 6 games. This is their most losses at their home ground after the first 12 games of the season, since the 1893-1894 season (lost 7 games).
- Man United have conceded the first goal in each of their last five Premier League games at Old Trafford, showing how fragile their defence is.
- Amorim's side have lost 10 of their 22 Premier League games this season. This is the first season Man United have lost 10 or more games since the 1989-1990 season under Alex Ferguson.
