Newcastle eyes on Joao Felix
According to The Sun, Newcastle are interested in borrowing striker Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, but their salary is a big obstacle.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of this year's season on loan at Chelsea. And coach Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that he will not sign a long-term contract with the Portuguese player, leaving Felix in a precarious situation.
After a disagreement with Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone at the beginning of the year, the La Liga representative was eager to sell Felix. The 23-year-old striker has struggled to impress at Madrid since moving from Benfica for €126 million in 2019.
With the current situation, the most likely option for Atletico Madrid is to continue to loan Felix when not many teams want to sign long-term contracts.
Notably, Felix has been open about his desire to participate in the Champions League, which has increased his chances of moving to Newcastle on loan this summer. The Magpies qualified for the tournament for the first time since the 2002-2003 season.
Chelsea have to spend £9 million on Felix, along with a salary of around £200,000/week, which could be an obstacle for Newcastle.
