Coach Ange Postecoglou admitted he was "heartbroken" by Tottenham's poor form. However, the Australian strategist still feels that the "Roosters" can revive in the Premier League this season.
Spurs can end a difficult December on a high if they beat Wolves. First-half goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson gave Tottenham the lead after Hwang Hee-chan had opened the scoring for Wolves.
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min also missed a penalty in the 43rd minute, but Spurs still had the advantage at the time. However, Jorgen Strand Larsen scored the decisive goal with just three minutes left, denying Tottenham the unfortunate victory.
The Spurs will start 2025 in the bottom half of the table with just one win in their last seven Premier League games, and they have been dealt another blow as Destiny Udogie has become the latest player to join their long injury list.
"It hurts me because I am responsible. When I see the players working hard like this, it hurts me even more. I want them to get the reward for their efforts. It hurts me a lot. It is my responsibility for the current position of the team," Postecoglou said after the draw against Wolves.
The draw with Wolves means Spurs have failed to win in their last five home games and have slipped to 11th in the Premier League table with just 24 points from 19 games. However, Postecoglou is not giving up hope as key players return from injury.
"At some point we will have a healthy squad and be able to compete at a high level. We have shown that we can beat anyone.
There is always room to improve. It depends on supporting the players both physically and mentally," the Australian strategist added.
Tottenham are sixth and just three points behind Chelsea after a 4-0 win over Manchester City on 23 November. However, they are now closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
According to British media, Tottenham's board will give Postecoglou one last chance to keep his job by winning the Carabao Cup. The London representative has now reached the semi-finals of this tournament but their opponent will be Liverpool.
