In the early morning of December 20 (Vietnam time), Tottenham hosted Man United in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup. The match was exciting from the first minutes. Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for Spurs in the 15th minute with a close-range shot. The two teams traded blows with many good chances in the first half but could not take advantage.
Early in the second half, Son Heung-min and James Maddison combined well on the left flank before Kulusevski scored a beautiful goal to make it 2-0. Less than 10 minutes later, Solanke beat Lisandro Martinez to fire a low shot past goalkeeper Bayindir.
After conceding three goals, coach Ruben Amorim sent Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo onto the field.
These changes immediately paid off. In the 63rd minute, goalkeeper Fraser Forster made a bad pass to Radu Dragusin, allowing Bruno Fernandes to intercept the ball and Zirkzee to simply tap the ball in to shorten the score for Man United.
The Red Devils showed commendable spirit when they continuously put pressure on their opponents. In the 70th minute, Amad Traore shot from a distance and defeated goalkeeper Forster - who was mentally affected by the tense match that Man United brought.
But then it was the United goalkeeper's turn to make a mistake. Bayindir fumbled Son Heung-min's corner, restoring Spurs' two-goal lead.
Jonny Evans headed home Amad's corner in stoppage time, but Spurs were unable to cause a surprise. The 4-3 win secured a place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, where they will face Arsenal. The result will ease the pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou as he seeks his side's first title since 2008.
