In the early morning of December 20 (Vietnam time), Tottenham hosted Man United in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup. The match was exciting from the first minutes. Dominic Solanke opened the scoring for Spurs in the 15th minute with a close-range finish. The two teams traded blows with many good opportunities in the first half but could not take advantage.
Early in the second half, Son Heung-min and James Maddison coordinated well on the left wing before Kulusevski scored a beautiful goal to increase the score to 2-0. Less than 10 minutes later, Solanke overcame Lisandro Martinez to shoot the low ball past goalkeeper Bayindir.
After conceding three goals, coach Ruben Amorim brought on Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo.
These changes immediately paid off. In the 63rd minute, goalkeeper Fraser Forster made a wrong pass to Radu Dragusin, allowing Bruno Fernandes to cut the ball and Zirkzee to simply cushion the ball to shorten the score for Man United.
The Red Devils showed commendable spirit when constantly putting pressure on their opponents. In the 70th minute, Amad Traore shot from a distance and defeated goalkeeper Forster - who was mentally ill before the tense match brought by Man United.
But then it was the Man United goalkeeper's turn to make a mistake. Bayindir sloppyly handled Son Heung-min's corner kick, helping Spurs restore their two-goal lead.
In the extra minutes, Jonny Evans headed in from Amad's corner kick, but could not cause a surprise against Spurs. The 4-3 victory helped the Roosters secure a ticket to the semi-finals of the English League Cup, against Arsenal. The result will ease the pressure on coach Ange Postecoglou in his bid for his first title with the team since 2008.
