On the evening of May 21, in the second leg of the 2024-2025 Southeast Asian Club Championship final, Hanoi Police Club suffered a regrettable defeat on penalties against Buriram United. This loss caused coach Mano Polking and his team to miss the opportunity to win the championship and had to accept the runner-up position.
With this achievement, the police team received 200,000 USD (about 5.2 billion VND) from the tournament organizing committee. In addition, they will receive an additional bonus of 125,000 USD for 5 away matches in the group stage (25,000 USD/match), along with 50,000 USD to support the upgrade of the field.
In addition to the prize from the tournament, Hanoi Police also received 400 million VND from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and 300 million VND from the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and Hanoi City Police after the second leg of the semi-final.
On the individual level, striker Leo Artur is on the list of "cast-breaking kings" when scoring 6 goals, equal to Buriram's Lucas Crispim.
The second leg of the final at Chang Arena was dramatic. Despite leading 2-0 in the first half, Hanoi Police was still equalized 2-2 after 90 minutes. The two teams continued to chase the score in extra time before Buriram won the brain-weighing penalty shootout, thereby winning the championship trophy and a prize money of 400,000 USD.
Despite losing the match, Hanoi Police have the right to be proud of a memorable season and the "huge" bonus is a great source of encouragement for the goals ahead.
