In the match that took place on the afternoon of November 20, Cong Phuong scored the only goal to help Binh Phuoc defeat Hue with a score of 1-0. Up to now, he has scored 5 goals and 1 assist for the team since the beginning of the season.
However, in the list of players called up by the Vietnamese team to prepare for the AFF Cup (new name is ASEAN Cup 2024), he was not selected. Sharing after the match with Hue about missing the appointment with the national team, Cong Phuong said:
"In my opinion, the list is already there and the best players have been chosen. That is good for the team. Hopefully, the Vietnamese team will have good results."
The striker born in 1995 added more about the important goal that helped Binh Phuoc win:
"I'm very happy to achieve the goal and score for the team. Every away game is difficult, but the whole team kept their spirits up and maintained their style of play, resulting in a goal.
I also want to thank the fans, even though this is the First Division, there are still so many fans. That is motivation for the players, so we have better spirit, the tournament will be more successful if there are more spectators."
Cong Phuong is the best scorer in the First Division this season, but that is not enough to bring him back to the national team. Cong Phuong has not participated in the AFF Cup in the last two seasons. In 2024, the striker from Nghe An has not played for the Vietnamese national team even once.
