Today (February 16), the visitation ceremony of former goalkeeper Van Hiep was held at his private home in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of many friends and colleagues. Accordingly, the funeral of the legendary football player of Ho Chi Minh City will be held on February 17.
Mr. Tran Van Hiep was born in 1960 and is famous for the golden age of Ho Chi Minh City football. During his playing days, he played for Saigon Port, Hai Quan and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry - 3 strong teams in the country at that time.
At the peak of his career, former goalkeeper Tran Van Hiep was called up to the Vietnam national team, starting at the Socialist Army Football Tournament in 1984.
In the 1980s, he was ranked in the group of 3 best goalkeepers in Vietnam, along with his colleagues Tran Van Khanh (Army) and Duong Ngoc Hung (Binh Dinh).
In his football career, Mr. Tran Van Hiep has been the number one goalkeeper of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry for 10 consecutive years, and his home club won the Third Division of the national championship in 1984, national runner-up in... 1985
After retiring, Mr. Hiep switched to coaching at lower-level clubs such as Thanh Long Sports Center and Khai Hoan Hotel. Not only that, the former Vietnamese player also teaches skills and experience to players of Binh Duong team.
5 years ago, Mr. Tran Van Hiep suffered a stroke and could not do business on his own. Although the family tried to seek treatment, Mr. Hiep's health did not improve, and he gradually weakened and passed away at his home.
