Goalkeeper coach Lee Won-jae says goodbye to Vietnam team

Goalkeeper coach Lee Won-jae has left the Vietnam national team and returned to South Korea after ending his short-term contract.

Mr. Lee Won-jae's contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) is for 2 months and ends after the 2024 ASEAN Cup. The Korean goalkeeper coach returned home to pursue personal plans.

In the Vietnam national team, coach Lee Won-jae works directly with three goalkeepers Dinh Trieu, Nguyen Filip and Trung Kien. He is the one who has the decisive assessment for the main goalkeeper position of the Vietnam national team at the recent ASEAN Cup 2024.

Mr. Lee Won-jae and head coach Kim Sang-sik made a surprising decision when choosing Dinh Trieu as the main goalkeeper for the Vietnam team. The reason given was that Dinh Trieu has the ability to communicate well with his teammates. The "goalkeeper" is currently on the payroll of Hai Phong club, and is also the one who won the title of Best Goalkeeper of ASEAN Cup 2024.

Lee Won-jae, born in 1973, played for the Korean national team for 18 years and played 132 international matches. He also participated in 4 World Cups in 1994, 2002, 2006 and 2010. Lee Won-jae was named in the K.League's best team 10 times.

During his football career, he won the Asian Cup 1 time, the K.League 4 times, won 3 Korean FA Cup titles, 4 League Cup titles, 2 Korean Super Cups and many other titles.
