On the evening of January 5, the Vietnamese team won 3-2 against Thailand in the second leg of the final, thereby convincingly winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship with a total score of 5-3.
Vietnam's goals were scored by Pham Tuan Hai and an own goal by Pansa Hemviboon. Meanwhile, Ben Davis and Supachok were the ones who brought goals for the home team.
Notably, Thailand's equalizer 1-1 came from a mistake by Doan Ngoc Tan. He passed the ball inaccurately right in front of the penalty area, creating an opportunity for Ben Davis to score skillfully into the visitors' net.
After the match, Doan Ngoc Tan shared: "Thank you to my teammates for correcting my mistakes, thank you to everyone for fighting hard, thank you to the fans for always following and cheering for the team. The championship trophy is for everyone."
In the second leg of the final, the midfielder wearing the number 25 shirt was not in the best condition. He had a swollen eye, discharge and had to blink and raise his eyebrows to see clearly. This injury originated from a situation where he threw himself to save the ball in the first leg of the final on January 2 at Viet Tri Stadium.
"My eyes still hurt, it's hard to see, there's a lot of discharge so they're blurry. It was already uncomfortable in Vietnam, but now they're even more swollen," Ngoc Tan said.
After winning the ASEAN Cup, the player born in 1994 did not return home with the Vietnamese team but stayed in Thailand to join Thanh Hoa club to compete in the Southeast Asian Cup C1. The Thanh team will compete with PG Pathum on January 8.
"This is the first trophy in my first time wearing the national team jersey, it is the motivation for me to try harder in the future. I will continue to stay in Thailand with Thanh Hoa to compete in the Southeast Asian tournament.
It's a pity that I can't return home to share the joy with the Vietnamese team, but as the captain of Thanh Hoa, I have to complete my mission and try to fight with my teammates in another playground," Ngoc Tan emphasized.
