At the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship, Iran and Vietnam both won tickets to the quarter-finals one match early, having won both of their first two matches.
The Vietnam women's futsal team beat Hong Kong (China) 5-3 and beat the Philippines 3-0. This result helps Thanh Hang and her teammates temporarily lead the group, better than the Iranian team thanks to the secondary index. The West Asian team also has 6 points after beating the Philippines 1-0 and beating Hong Kong (China) 3-1.
Sharing on the homepage of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Foruzan Solymani, coach of the Iranian women's futsal team, admitted the difficulties in defeating the Hong Kong (China) team.
She said: "We tried to break the defense of Hong Kong (China) and scored the first goal. But we lost our vigilance and helped them equalize. In the half-time break, I told the players to put more pressure and we were able to score and win.
Talking about the Vietnam futsal team, Ms. Foruzan Solymani shared: "We will face another challenge against the Vietnam team and they are a very difficult opponent to defeat. However, I believe in our players and we hope to win.
Iran's women's futsal team is the most successful team in the continent, having won the previous two Asian tournaments in 2015 and 2018. In the 2018 tournament, they beat the Vietnam women's futsal team 5-0 in the semi-finals.
However, the level of the Vietnam women's futsal team has been significantly improved. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang is also very confident before the match with the West Asian team.
We will analyze the match against Iran and decide which strategy is most suitable, he said. Our goal is very clear to win.
The final match in the group stage of the Vietnam women's futsal team will take place at 4:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on May 11 against Iran.
If they win or draw, the Vietnam women's futsal team will top Group B and will meet the second-placed team in Group C in the quarter-finals (most likely Japan or Thailand).
If they are second in Group B, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team will meet the second-placed team in Group A, most likely Taiwan (China) or Uzbekistan.
