Vietnam futsal team is in the same group with Thailand in the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament.

The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship has 9 participating teams and is divided into two groups. Group A has 5 teams including: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Timor Leste. Group B has the participation of Indonesia, Myanmar, Australia and Cambodia.

The teams will compete in a round robin format to determine rankings in each group. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals.

In terms of strength, the race in Group A will focus on the teams of Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, in which host Thailand is rated higher and is a candidate for the top spot in the group.

According to statistics, the Vietnamese team often has unfavorable results when facing the futsal team of the Golden Temple. However, the gap in level between the two teams has been shortened. In fact, the victories of the Thai team against the Vietnamese team are no longer as easy as before. At the 2024 Asian Futsal Finals, the Thai team could only overcome the Vietnamese team with a close score of 2-1.

Meanwhile, against Malaysia, the Vietnamese team has a pretty good record in confrontations. At the 2021 SEA Games, the Vietnamese team defeated Malaysia with a score of 7-1. Most recently, in two friendly matches with Malaysia before the 2024 Asian Cup last March in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnamese team won one match and lost one match.

The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship will take place from November 2 to November 10 in Thailand. To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnamese team is expected to gather again on October 10 in Ho Chi Minh City. Coach Diego Giustozzi and his team will have a training trip and play two friendly matches in Thailand before the tournament.
