The trend of recycling and creating from everyday items is becoming more and more popular and favored. Instead of throwing away disposable plastic spoons, housewives can create simple yet sophisticated handicrafts.
Accordingly, making roses from plastic spoons is a unique idea, both helping to protect the environment and creating beautiful, new home decorations.
With some simple materials such as plastic spoons, candles, scissors and a few other accessories, housewives can make their own roses for decoration.
Prepare materials and tools including 9 - 10 plastic spoons (size depends on desired flower size); Candle or lighter; Scissors; Tweezers; Felt to make flower base; Hairpins, pins or ribbons...
Next, start by creating the pistil. This is considered the first highlight of the rose. Light a candle and heat the inside of a plastic spoon until the plastic begins to soften and curl slightly.
The baking time will depend on the material of the spoon, thicker spoons will need more time.
When the spoon starts to soften, use your hands (or wear gloves) to gently squeeze the edges of the spoon inward, forming a shape similar to a flower bud.
Next, heat the neck of the spoon and use scissors to cut off the handle. This will be the center of the flower.
Once you have completed the pistil, continue with the outer petals. Heat the underside of the spoon over a flame until the plastic becomes soft and malleable.
Once the plastic is soft enough, bend the spoon back to form the petal shape. Continue heating the neck of the spoon again and cut off the handle. Repeat this step until you have created the desired number of petals.
This step has made the rose begin to form when grafting the petals onto the pistil. Take a petal and graft it onto the pistil that you have made. Heat the bottom of the petal over a flame, then use tweezers to gently press the petal onto the pistil, waiting for the resin to cool so that the two parts are firmly attached.
Continue to add petals layer by layer, creating a natural layered effect for the rose. After every few petals, you can heat the base of the flower and press it against a heat-resistant surface such as a ceramic or glass plate to flatten and secure the flower.
Once the rose has enough petals, you can use more hot plastic from the spoon handle to reinforce and fill the gaps between the petals.
Heat a section of the spoon handle and press it gently into the area where you want to fill it. Wait for the plastic to cool slightly, then gently twist it to separate the spoon handle from the flower.
Continue these steps until the flower looks fuller and firmer.
The final step is to decorate the rose with small accessories and attach the flower base.
Cut a small piece of felt and hot glue it to the bottom of the flower to cover the jointed part to give the flower strength.
Depending on the purpose of use, you can add hair clips, pins or ribbons to the flower base. Thus, the rose made from plastic spoons will become a unique accessory or eye-catching decoration for your family's living space.
