The following are 10 typical and outstanding events and activities of Vietnam Trade Union in 2024 voted by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor:
1. Organize the study, dissemination and extensive implementation of the Resolutions of the Trade Union Congresses at all levels and the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union.
Immediately after the successful congresses of trade unions at all levels and the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, term 2023 - 2028, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor guided and directed trade unions at all levels nationwide to focus on studying, thoroughly grasping, learning and widely implementing the Resolutions of the Congresses of Trade Unions at all levels and the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union in many rich, diverse and effective forms.
In particular, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized a national in-person and online conference to study, disseminate and learn the Resolution of the 13th Congress of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for more than 40,000 union officials to attend at 855 locations; organized an online contest to learn about "Resolution of the trade union congress and actions of union members and workers" with more than 2.1 million union officials, union members and workers participating in the contest; promptly developed an action program to implement the Congress Resolution and the full-term working program of the executive committees at all levels of the trade union. The whole country has raised the movement of "Bringing the resolutions of the trade union congresses at all levels into life" with many meaningful and practical models and activities.
2. The National Assembly passed the Trade Union Law (amended) 2024 with many new points to facilitate trade union activities.
On the morning of November 27, 2024, with 92.48% of the delegates in favor, the 15th National Assembly passed the Trade Union Law (amended) at the 8th Session. The Trade Union Law (amended) has thoroughly grasped and institutionalized the Party's viewpoints and guidelines for innovation; is consistent with the 2013 Constitution, ensures the unity and synchronization of the current legal system; has many new points to facilitate trade union activities, ensuring that the Vietnam Trade Union, the socio-political organization of the working class and laborers, grows stronger and operates effectively, attracting a large number of workers and labor organizations at enterprises to join the Vietnam Trade Union. The Trade Union Law (amended) takes effect from July 1, 2025.
The promulgation of the Trade Union Law recognizes the efforts of the entire system, especially the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor under the direction of the Party Committee and the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in researching and preparing to collect extensive opinions from trade union officials, union members and workers nationwide to submit to the National Assembly for approval a scientific, rigorous law with many new points and high feasibility.
3. The union accompanies and cares for union members and workers, focusing on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Workers' Month and after the damage of storm No. 3 (Yagi).
In 2024, activities to care for union members and workers will continue to be promoted by trade unions at all levels, especially during the Lunar New Year and Workers' Month in 2024. Over 10.5 million union members and workers have benefited from Tet care activities organized by the Trade Union, with a total amount of more than 7 trillion VND (an increase of 28% in the number of people and 15% in funding compared to 2023).
Faced with the heavy loss of life and property caused by storm No. 3 in the northern provinces, trade unions at all levels promptly accompanied, cared for, supported, and shared difficulties with union members, workers, and people who suffered losses.
As of October 30, 2024, trade unions at all levels have directly visited and supported 274 union members and workers who were injured, died, had relatives who died, and 20,968 cases of collapsed or completely collapsed houses or houses with unroofed roofs, flooded houses and damaged property, livestock, crops, etc. with a total amount of nearly 78 billion VND.
Trade unions at all levels have mobilized, donated and transferred to the accounts of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels more than 1,128 billion VND. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has issued a decision to present "Trade Unions and Children Continue Step by Step" savings books to children of union members and workers who died due to storm No. 3, demonstrating the long-term concern of the trade union organization for the children of union members and workers.
4.Successfully and impressively organized the Forum "Improving National Labor Productivity in 2024" with the participation and chairing of the Prime Minister.
On the occasion of Workers' Month, on May 26, 2024, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized the Forum "Improving National Labor Productivity in 2024" chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, leaders of departments, ministries, and branches and the participation of 450 union members and workers representing more than 11 million union members nationwide.
At the Forum, union members and workers, together with the head of the Government, leaders of central ministries and branches, and leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, discussed the current state of labor productivity, causes, bottlenecks, and proposed and recommended many solutions to promote labor productivity growth.
At the Forum, the Prime Minister conveyed the message of improving labor productivity to union members and workers nationwide; directed 6 tasks and solutions to promote national labor productivity and presented gifts and commended 95 outstanding union members and workers nationwide with high labor productivity and many initiatives and achievements in labor production.
5. Organize many meaningful events to honor and commend union officials, union members, workers, businesses, agencies and organizations on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union and to receive the First Class Labor Medal.
In order to practically celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2024), trade unions at all levels have organized many cultural and sports events and activities, taking care of the lives and jobs of workers, honoring and praising trade union officials, union members, workers and enterprises to encourage and motivate emulation movements among union members and workers, while at the same time propagating and promoting the glorious tradition, position and prestige of the Trade Union organization.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor awarded the Nguyen Van Linh Award for the 4th time to honor 10 outstanding union officials of all union levels; honored 95 outstanding grassroots union and trade union chairmen nationwide for the 5th time; met with key female union leaders at provincial and central levels and honored 95 outstanding grassroots female union officials for the 3rd time; organized the Vietnam Glory Program with the theme "20 years of unleashing the power of Vietnam" to honor 20 typical and advanced collectives and individuals nationwide; honored 67 outstanding enterprises for workers, which are enterprises that have made many contributions to improving working conditions, caring for the lives and enhancing welfare for workers.
At the event to organize activities to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended, delivered a speech and awarded the First Class Labor Medal in recognition of the outstanding achievements of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in the period 2018 - 2023.
6.Organizing "Union Meals" simultaneously throughout the union system creates a strong ripple effect.
Organizing "Union Meals" simultaneously is a new, creative activity in a series of meaningful activities to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union; it is an activity that demonstrates the mark and role of the Trade Union organization through dialogue and negotiation with employers and the organization to improve the quality of workers' meals.
The Union Meal is not only more delicious and nutritious than usual, but it is also an opportunity for workers, union officials and business leaders to get closer and share with each other in the warm and friendly atmosphere of the shift meal at the workplace, an opportunity to remember the glorious tradition of the Vietnam Trade Union, thereby strengthening the trust and attachment of union members and workers to the Union and the business. There have been 15.6 thousand grassroots unions organizing Union Meals with the participation of more than 3.3 million union members and workers with a total cost of more than 167 billion VND.
7. Increase contact between union members and workers with National Assembly delegates, create connection, understanding, and convey many issues of interest to union members and workers to the National Assembly Forum.
Before the 7th and 8th Sessions of the 15th National Assembly, the provincial and municipal Labor Federations coordinated with the National Assembly delegations and the provincial and municipal Fatherland Fronts to organize conferences to meet voters and dialogues between National Assembly deputies and union members and workers. The conferences were an opportunity for union members and workers to express their thoughts, aspirations, proposals and recommendations to the National Assembly on policies and laws related to workers and trade union activities, especially legal regulations on social insurance, health insurance, and the Trade Union Law; propose ideas and solutions to promote socio-economic development, contribute to improving people's lives and realize the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation.
Thematic voter contact conferences are also an important information channel to help National Assembly deputies better perform their legislative and supreme supervision duties and decide on important issues directly related to the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers, contributing to building a modern and strong Vietnamese working class.
8.Efforts in developing union members, establishing grassroots trade unions and grassroots trade unions In 2024, the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions will be focused on with many drastic solutions implemented throughout the system.
With the outstanding efforts of trade unions at all levels, 1,230,594 new union members were admitted, including 43,971 union members in the informal sector; the total number of union members actually increased by 627,675, bringing the total number of union members nationwide to 11,851,612, including 91,946 union members in the informal sector.
In 2024, the whole country will establish 10,976 new grassroots trade unions, bringing the total number of grassroots trade unions to 127,357, of which 1,018 are grassroots trade unions, 2,165 of which are established by the new method.
9.Successfully organize the 2024 Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Tournament, attracting the attention of many union members and workers. In order to improve the health and spiritual life of workers and civil servants, and strengthen the solidarity of the working class, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, in coordination with the Vietnam Football Federation and Tuoi Tre Newspaper, organized the 2024 Vietnam Workers' and Civil Servants' Football Tournament, following the success of the 2023 National Workers' Football Tournament.

Timely implement the Party and State's policies and orientations on practicing thrift, fighting waste, streamlining the organization, streamlining the apparatus, and reducing staffing at all levels of trade unions.
In recent years, the Trade Union has proactively reorganized its apparatus, streamlined its staff, implemented many solutions to practice thrift, combat waste, and innovate its organization and operations in the spirit of Resolution No. 02 of the Politburo. Continuing to thoroughly grasp the policies and orientations of the Party and State, on December 4, 2024, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor promptly organized a national in-person and online conference to deploy new directives of the Party and State on practicing thrift, combating waste, and streamlining the organization of trade unions at all levels.
At the conference, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor instructed all presidents and vice presidents of provincial and central trade unions, heads and deputy heads of departments and units under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to focus on developing specialized programs and plans on practicing thrift and combating waste; to reorganize the trade union apparatus at all levels; individual leaders and collective leaders of agencies and units must be exemplary, determine political determination, accept to sacrifice interests, implement urgently and resolutely, superiors do not wait for subordinates; thoroughly overcome the situation of overlapping functions and tasks, division of areas and fields, and many cumbersome intermediary organizations.
