On September 7, Mr. Le Phan Linh - Chairman of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines Trade Union said that the industry's trade union has just sent an urgent dispatch to grassroots trade unions in shipping, seaport and maritime service enterprises from Nghe An to Hai Phong and Quang Ninh about focusing on urgent response to storm No. 3 in 2024.
Mr. Le Phan Linh said that storm No. 3 is forecasted to be very strong, with a high level of natural disaster risk, complicated developments and direct impacts on localities from Ha Tinh to Hai Phong, Quang Ninh... The Standing Committee of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines Trade Union requested grassroots trade unions in the region from Nghe An to Hai Phong, Quang Ninh to coordinate with experts to urgently and closely monitor the path of storm No. 3;
Focus on leading, directing, organizing, inspecting, urging, promptly, resolutely, and effectively implementing storm prevention and response work with the spirit of proactive prevention and response at the highest level to ensure the lives of union members and workers , and minimize damage to business assets.
Immediately deploy an emergency response plan for storm No. 3 according to the 4 on-site motto (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and materials, on-site logistics) and 3 readiness (proactive prevention, timely response, urgent and effective recovery).
The trade unions of the maritime transport sector coordinate with the experts to guide ships to navigate and anchor safely; require ship commanders to strictly comply with regulations on storm prevention and control; strengthen watchkeeping; check the lashing of cargo on deck; ensure safety for crew members, ships and cargo on board.
The grassroots trade unions of the seaport and maritime services sector participated with expertise in organizing and assigning shifts during the storm; tying down existing equipment, lowering the height of containers at the yard; moving cargo cranes to fixed positions with safety locks; developing flood prevention plans for warehouses, factories, walkways, etc.
Mr. To Dinh Son - Chairman of the Trade Union of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company - said that to ensure the safety of equipment, goods and people in the face of the complicated developments of storm No. 3 (YAGI), Hai Phong Port temporarily suspended cargo delivery activities from 3:00 p.m. on September 6 at Tan Vu Port Branch and from 6:00 p.m. on September 6 at Chua Ve Port Branch. Hoang Dieu Port will proactively plan production based on the actual weather conditions and the unit's requirements.
Following the direction of the Maritime Administration, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh Port Authorities, Hai Phong Port Transport Tugboat Joint Stock Company towed ships to avoid the storm, including towing a 182-meter container ship from Buoy No. 5 Hai Phong to Quang Ninh to the Hon Mieu beach area; moving 3 coast guard ships of factory 189 to Vat Cach port to avoid the storm. Currently, the tugboats are being deployed to guard against storms at the ports of Hai Phong Port...
