caring for the smallest things
According to the Trade Union of Da Nang High-Tech Park and Industrial Parks (KCNC&CKCN), female workers account for more than 75% of the total of more than 130,000 workers in industrial parks and industrial clusters. Most of them work in the fields of garment, footwear, electronics - with great pressure and low income.
To promptly support, the Trade Unions at all levels in Da Nang have implemented many practical models, including the model of "Cabin - storage of milk" for female workers raising young children.
At Pi Vina Da Nang Co., Ltd., the 20m2 milk-squeezing cabin is fully equipped with a breast pump, refrigerator, sterilizer... with a budget of 42 million VND.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a worker at the company - shared: "Before, I was very tired because I was broke during work. Now I take a break in the middle of the break to express and store milk, ensure my health and still raise my baby on breast milk."
From this first model, the expressway cabin has been replicated in many other businesses in the city.
At the same time, many grassroots unions have negotiated to improve the quality of shift meals. At Matrix Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park), pregnant workers are arranged additional meals, the main meal is increased from 15,000 to 20,000 VND/person - the result of the program "Nutritious shift meals - Healthy workers" launched by the City Labor Federation.
At AMANN Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tam Thang Industrial Park), the policy for female workers has been adjusted after a dialogue with the union: those who raise children under 12 months are given an additional 60 minutes/day off to express milk, and are supported with 100,000 VND/month. If they do not work, they will still be paid 100% of their salary.
No one is left behind
Not only caring at the workplace, the Trade Union organization is also a place to share and accompany female workers to overcome difficulties and hardships.
In early June, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ni Na - a female worker who was seriously injured and hospitalized by a mentally ill person after being kicked by a mentally ill person - was visited and presented with more than 100 million VND in hospital support by the Tien Phuoc District Labor Federation (now Tien Phuoc Commune, Da Nang City), along with associations, unions and benefactors.
"While in the hospital, I was in both pain and worried about where to get treatment money. Thanks to the timely support of the union and everyone, I have more confidence and feel that I am not abandoned" - Ms. Ni Na shared.
Previously, many other situations were also promptly helped by the union. Like Ms. Vo Thi Binh - a worker at CCI Company (Nui Thanh commune) - after losing her husband in an accident, raising two young children alone. Thanks to the introduction of the grassroots union, she was supported by the City Labor Federation to build a Union Shelter.
In Duy Xuyen commune, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, a worker at Sedo Vinako Company - was also supported with 50 million VND to build a house. She emotionally said: "I had an accident and lost my job. The union not only helped me have a new house, but also encouraged me with gifts and health visits. Thanks to that, my mother and I have stabilized our lives."
Models such as "Zero-dong booth", "Union mini supermarket", "Flexible Women's Union", "Accompanying Workers" are being widely deployed, helping female workers access support quickly.
Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh emphasized: We clearly identify that caring for female workers is not only about material support, but also about sharing the spirit. Every meal, every gift or a greeting has a great meaning in the life of a workers who are under a lot of pressure. And it is from that persistent care that the union is gradually building trust and attachment in the hearts of female workers.
