Male worker Duong Van Bao (28 years old, Hau Giang province) is one of two successful kidney transplant cases in the Mekong Delta region announced by Can Tho Central General Hospital on August 26. In the following days, his health recovered well, bringing joy to his family and medical staff.
When we visited him in the post-transplant room, his life was almost back to normal. That joy was doubled when he was discharged from the hospital on the occasion of National Day, September 2.

"About 5 years ago, my wife and I packed up and went to Dong Nai to work as garment workers. We worked hard so we rarely went for regular health check-ups, and for minor illnesses we just took medicine carelessly. When I couldn't stand it anymore, I went to the hospital and the doctor said I had end-stage kidney failure. I almost collapsed," Bao recounted.
At the end of 2021, Mr. Bao and his wife decided to return to their hometown to make it easier to travel for dialysis. In May 2024, hearing that Can Tho General Hospital had its first successful kidney transplant, his family gathered enough money and registered for the transplant to regain life.
Doctors at Can Tho General Hospital have actively treated Bao's heart failure, heart valve regurgitation, and pulmonary hypertension with internal medicine. According to the spirit of inter-hospital consultation, the optimal method is a kidney transplant and the donor is his biological father.
"The moment I was on the operating table, I was nervous and constantly prayed that I would find life again. When I opened my eyes and gradually saw myself recovering and living normally, I was so happy!
I was also discharged from the hospital before the National Day on September 2. This is really meaningful because I can go home, gather with my family like other workers, enjoy the atmosphere with everyone and I also have the opportunity to work. This is the most memorable holiday of my life and I will soon celebrate September 2 with my family!" - Mr. Bao happily said.

Talking about future orientation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nho (An Giang province) - Mr. Bao's wife expressed: "I accompany my husband to help him truly improve his health. After that, I will also find a job at a company near home and my husband will do a job that is suitable for his health."
Talking to Lao Dong, specialist doctor II Truong Minh Khoa - Deputy Head of the Department of Nephrology - Urology, Can Tho Central General Hospital said: "As a direct participant in the kidney transplant team for Mr. Bao's case, when we saw the patient's urine flowing out after surgery, we were very happy. The daily health progress of Mr. Bao as well as other real transplant cases is the motivation for us to strive on the journey of health care for patients in the Mekong Delta region".
