Benefits of self-managed workers' dormitories
To attract workers to stay in a rented house, many boarding houses have invested in a systematic way, arranged socks, used smart door locking devices (fingerprints), and installed surveillance cameras. When the Dong Thap Provincial Federation of Labor deploys the model of "Self-managed worker dormitories", boarding houses are even safer, more disciplined and standard.
Mr. Vo Anh Khoa - owner of Duy Phuong boarding house (Tan Phuoc 3 commune, Dong Thap province) - said that his boarding house has 60 rooms with more than 70 people registering to stay, most of whom are illegal workers from many different provinces and regions.
"The Commune Police are encouraged to participate in building a model of "3 no, 3 no" ("3 no" which is not a bad thing, not littering the environment and affecting the urban landscape, not singing noisy karaoke in the boarding house causing disorder; "3 yes" is a boarding house with fire extinguishers, trees and a security camera system), I and the residents of the boarding house are excited to participate after realizing the practical benefits of this model," said Mr. Khoa.

According to Mr. Khoa, this self-management model not only brings practical benefits to landlords, but also those who rent it clearly see that when they can both prevent and combat crimes and fire and explosion and directly enjoy a cool, fresh, and peaceful living space in an ideal way. In addition to installing a surveillance camera system, he also often reminds people in the evening to bring their motorbikes inside to prevent thieves from breaking in and stealing...

Originally from the old Hau Giang province (now Can Tho city), working as a construction worker for a project in the Long Giang industrial park and renting a house for more than a year, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Anh said that Mr. Khoa's boarding house is very secure and safe. The door is locked with fingerprints, there are many surveillance cameras in the boarding house so there is no theft, especially no evils such as drugs, prostitution, etc.
Mr. Hoai Anh said that the landlord also installs fire extinguishers around the area, ensuring fire prevention and fighting, so workers are very assured.
Maintaining and continuing to replicate the model
Mr. Hoang Khac Tinh - Vice Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial Federation of Labor - said that up to now, the Dong Thap Provincial Federation of Labor has established 91 self-managed worker dormitories, with 8,272 workers and 63 coordination groups. In 2025, the Trade Union plans to establish 3 more self-managed worker dormitories, with 102 rooms.
According to Mr. Tinh, in recent times, the self-managed worker boarding house model has been effective, ensuring security and order, preventing and combating social evils and "black credit". Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and fighting against crime among workers, ensuring security and order in the locality.
To promote the effectiveness of the above model, in the coming time, the Dong Thap Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to direct the Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Dong Thap province to coordinate with the Dong Thap Provincial Police to organize activities to promptly inform workers about the security and order situation of social evils, tricks and developments of crimes, the situation of black credit, etc. At the same time, will coordinate with local authorities and the Police to maintain and replicate this model to ensure security and order in boarding houses, Mr. Tinh shared.
