Speaking to reporters, teacher Tran Thi Sinh (name changed) - a teacher in a mountainous area in Ha Giang - said that in previous years, the school's Tet bonus and the union's Tet gifts totaled about 1 million VND/person. In recent years, this number has been about 500,000 VND/person.
"I know this money comes from the school's welfare fund and also from the school's union's Tet gifts," said teacher Sinh.
According to the female teacher, every year the school tries to give teachers a small Tet bonus to encourage them. According to Ms. Sinh, some schools only give Tet bonuses of about 200,000-300,000 VND/person.
"When we follow the mass media, we often hear about Tet bonuses of tens of millions of dong, some industries have hundreds of millions of dong. This makes me feel a bit sad," said teacher Sinh.
However, according to Ms. Sinh, teachers are sympathetic to this because the school is facing many difficulties. In addition, the law does not require bonuses for employees during holidays and Tet.
Having been a teacher in the highlands for more than ten years, Ms. Sinh's income is more than 10 million VND/month. Currently, Ms. Sinh is a civil servant.
A principal in Cao Bang said that every year the school does not give a Tet bonus to teachers. Each teacher receives a Tet gift in kind from the Trade Union.
Clause 3, Article 12 of the 2010 Law on Public Employees stipulates that public employees are entitled to bonuses according to the provisions of law and regulations of public service units.
For teachers working under contract at non-public training institutions, the Tet bonus is stipulated in Clause 1, Article 104 of the 2019 Labor Code.
Accordingly, the 2025 Tet bonus for teachers at non-public training institutions will be based on the school's results and work completion level.
The bonus regulations will be decided by the employer and publicly announced at the workplace after consulting with the organization representing employees at the facility.
