Efforts in a toxic environment
Soc Trang solid waste treatment plant, under Soc Trang Urban Construction Joint Stock Company (Can Tho City), receives about 200 tons of domestic waste per day. Because it has not been classified at source, garbage has complex ingredients, high humidity and organic content, causing a very unpleasant odor.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam (born in 1987), a worker in the hand-carried sanitation ribbon area, directly collecting PET plastic bottles, said that people usually store garbage at home for 1-2 days before handing it over to the collection unit, so when they come to the factory, they start breaking it down.
In a toxic working environment, Mr. Tam always strictly follows the work according to the correct procedures, ensuring occupational safety and hygiene, while complying with factory rules. Thanks to that, it contributes to helping the factory classify 100% of the amount of waste per day, raising the rate of recyclable waste to about 2.5%, contributing to the excellent completion of the unit's waste treatment task.
Some outstanding initiatives include: "Improving organic embankment for alloy banking under screws", "Using the usable parts of containers to make new containers" and "High level of containers wrapped in the Scalp Factory". Although these initiatives are small, they have contributed significantly to cost savings, cost reduction and productivity increase.
At the fertilizer factory, Mr. Nguyen Rang Dong (1980) is responsible for handling flies and odors. He organizes scientific work, proactively monitoring the density of flies to promptly handle them, helping to control diseases and odors well over the years. He also pioneered the application of the initiative to take advantage of fruit peels such as cong (kem) and pineapple to produce Eco-Enzyme for waste treatment, which is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
He also has practical initiatives such as "Using old belt ropes to reinforce the tripe bands", "Installing more bulbs in the side rope so that garbage does not fall down" and "Inmediate microbiome (IMO) to treat organic waste odor".
Emulation becomes motivation
Another typical example is Mr. Dang Van Nha (born in 1982), a technical worker of the factory. He has had 20 initiatives to improve machinery, contributing significantly to maintaining stable operation of equipment, while bringing clear economic efficiency.
According to Mr. Nha, because the factory's vehicles were old, often overloaded and damaged, while replacement parts had to be imported, taking a long time to wait, he bought domestic spare parts and repaired them.
Some of his outstanding improvements include: "Improving oil pipes, engine oil, replacing metal pipes with soft packaging pipes", helping to limit oil leakage and increase the life of the system. Or "Install additional loops to track the adjustment parameters of the mixer", making it easy for the operator to monitor and detect the incident in time. His initiatives not only solve technical problems, but also help save hundreds of millions of VND for the unit.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, Chairman of the Trade Union of Soc Trang Urban Construction Joint Stock Company, said that in recent years, the Trade Union has launched a movement to compete in creative labor, promote initiatives, and improve techniques among workers. This is not just a competitive movement but has become a real driving force, contributing to improving productivity, work quality and operational efficiency of the entire enterprise.
