Timely support for workers in special difficulties
Located in Ho Chi Minh City, Rochdale Spears Co., Ltd. has 2 production facilities in Binh Hoa ward and Tan Khanh ward. This is one of the enterprises that produce wooden furniture for export with a large number of workers.
According to the Trade Union of Rochdale Spears Co., Ltd., the company currently has 4,187 employees, of which 1,415 are female employees (accounting for 34%). With such a large number of union members, there are often sudden incidents in the company, and workers are in especially difficult circumstances.
For example, the case of Mr. Le Van (name changed), born in 1976, from An Giang province, working in the Finishing department - Factory 2 of Rochdale Spears Company Limited. Mr. Van unfortunately died of a stroke, leaving behind 3 children. Currently, Mr. Van's two children are looking for jobs, and one of them has just dropped out of school. His wife works as a housewife to conveniently take care of her elderly mother who is over 70 years old this year. On September 28, he passed away, his family fell into difficult circumstances.
Faced with the above situation, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union launched a fundraising campaign to support Mr. Van's family. After a period of mobilization, the company and all union members have raised 109.7 million VND. Representatives of the Trade Union and the Board of Directors of the company presented the support money to his family. Hopefully his family will strive to overcome the difficult period.
In addition to the above case, the company's Trade Union also supports many other workers who are unfortunately facing difficult circumstances. Mr. Truong Thanh Dung - Chairman of the company's Trade Union informed that the unit organized timely visits and encouragement to each union member whenever he and his family had work. In addition, the grassroots trade union quickly grasps especially difficult circumstances, serious illnesses, and deaths.
During the period from 2020 to 2025, the Trade Union has donated to the families of 10 union members who died with a total amount of 1.17 billion VND. In many cases where union members have unfortunate accidents, occupational diseases, and serious illnesses, the grassroots union supports from 2-5 million VND/case.
Trade Union adds motivation for union members to overcome adversity
Ms. Tran Thu (name changed), born in 2002, from Ca Mau, left her hometown to work at the factory of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. in My Phuoc Industrial Park (Ben Cat Ward) for 2 years. The sudden incident caused many difficulties for the female worker.
Ms. Thu shared that on September 23, while in a rented room, she felt dizzy, unable to breathe, and tired. He was immediately taken to the emergency room by relatives. After going to many hospitals, the doctor diagnosed her with a stroke due to cerebral hemorrhage.
Ms. Thu had to undergo surgery to open the skull to remove the right hemisphere's blood clot, place EVD to support breathing with antibiotics to relieve pain, nutrition, and physical therapy. During the treatment process, the family had to pay many expenses up to 100 million VND.
The sequelae left the left hand and foot unable to move normally. Because the treatment process was still quite long in the future, the hospital in Ho Chi Minh City transferred Ms. Thu to Ca Mau Hospital for further treatment after having surgery on the skull.
Faced with the female worker's situation, the Executive Board of the Trade Union mobilized all companies to join hands to support. After a period of calling, the Trade Union has raised the amount of 188 million VND.
Mr. Le Tin Nghia - Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. - said that the company's Trade Union went to Ca Mau to hand over the support money to Ms. Thu. The Trade Union and the entire company hope to give her more motivation to continue her treatment efforts and recover soon to return to work at the company.
According to Mr. Le Tin Nghia, in addition to Ms. Thu's case, whenever union members and workers are facing difficulties, the Trade Union always stands up to find support solutions. The Executive Committee of the Trade Union has called for support for many cases in difficult circumstances. On average, each case is supported with over 200 million VND.
