I do not follow my father's profession
According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City, this locality currently has 1,188 registered fishing boats with the largest length of 6 meters or more. Of which, there are 287 fishing vessels with a length from 6 meters to under 12 meters. Fishing vessels with a length of 12 meters to under 15 meters have 310 vessels, fishing vessels with a length of 15 meters or more have 591 vessels.
However, Da Nang shipowners are facing a serious labor shortage. The reason is that older fishermen no longer have the strength to go to sea, and young people want to find work on shore.
Mr. Tran Hoang, a fisherman in Da Nang, owner of a near-shore fishing boat, said that his boat fishes near the shore, usually exploiting waters about 5 to 10 nautical miles from the mainland. Previously, each trip out to sea used 5 to 7 workers on board, all fishing work always went smoothly and operated at full frequency. However, many maritime workers switched to other jobs, some of the workers on his ship were also among them.

Due to the large number of workers leaving the maritime profession, every ship owner is short of workers. Currently, there are only 4 people left on Mr. Hoang's ship.
Mr. Tran Hoang shared that he and his wife both follow the maritime profession, he goes by boat and his wife sells seafood at the port. But his son, daughter, and son-in-law are working at a company in Da Nang City and have no intention of following their father's profession.
Mr. Phuc, a fisherman in Da Nang, also said that in recent months, fishing boats have been lying on the shore and anchored at the port. Partly because this year's fishing industry has lost revenue, after each trip it costs tens of millions in oil but doesn't catch anything. The other part is because there are no people to go to sea, most young people find jobs on the shore to work. Mr. Phuc said that today's young people refuse to go to sea for long periods of time.
Scarcity of sea labor
According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the seafood workforce in the city is increasingly scarce, which is a very difficult problem for the development of fisheries exploitation.
In fact, in recent times, there have been many cases where due to difficulties in finding workers, ship owners had to temporarily suspend operations, leading to the failure to mark fishing vessels, renew registration, or issue fishing licenses, causing negative impacts. affecting the completion of targets on fishing vessel management and combating IUU fishing .

Mr. Nguyen Lai, Head of Tho Quang Lock and Fishing Port Management Board, said: "Currently, sea labor is quite scarce. In Da Nang, sea labor cannot be found."
According to Mr. Lai, every day, ships have enough labor to go to sea. Currently, the Tho Quang Lock and Fishing Port Management Board is strictly controlling ships entering and leaving every day. When conditions are met, they will set sail. At the same time, the Tho Quang Lock and Fishing Port Management Board is also handling "3-zero" ships that are not yet qualified to operate.
The Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Lock and Port has also organized timely, regular, continuous and complete dissemination and dissemination of guiding documents on ship management and combating IUU fishing by units. positions related to officials, workers and ship owners/captains of fishing vessels. At the same time, organize 100% output monitoring for fishing vessels docking at ports to load and unload aquatic products.
