50% of workers suffered property damage after floods
These days, the production pace in Suoi Dau Industrial Park (Khanh Hoa province) has gradually stabilized again.
Mr. Dinh Quang Dong - Chairman of the Trade Union of Thong Thuan Company Limited - said that the recent flood forced the enterprise to stop production for 2 days due to hundreds of workers being isolated in the flooded area. In the next 2-3 days, the number of workers who can come to the factory will only reach 20 - 30%, and have now basically returned to full capacity.
Current statistics show that more than 50% of Thong Thuan Company's employees are affected, with 350 cases out of nearly 700 workers. About 250 cases had houses flooded 1m or more deep.
Unable to hold back her tears, Ms. Do Thi Hang - a worker at Thong Thuan Company - choked up as she said: "My house is in Dien Dien commune. During the recent flood, my family lost everything. What flows with the water is not said, the rest is also ruined. Only the bicycle has been left for me to go to work for the past few days.
Ms. Hang is the main breadwinner of the family, her husband is a precarious freelancer, and is raising his children to study. "Now I can only try to work to earn more income, then save up to buy back each item that was damaged by the flood," she shared.
Trade unions support workers to overcome difficulties
Sharing the situation of Ms. Hang and many workers who suffered heavy losses in the recent flood, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation has supported 1 million VND/person for the 20 most difficult cases at Thong Thuan Company.
Many workers said that they will use this support to buy rice cookers, because all the cooking equipment in the house is flooded.
Mr. Dinh Quang Dong said that Thong Thuan Company is continuing to mobilize resources from the Labor Federation, from unharmed workers and from business partners to support about 250 union members who are severely affected, with an immediate support level of VND500,000/person.
Ms. Tran Thi Huong - Vice President of the Provincial Labor Federation and Head of the Khanh Hoa Industrial Park Trade Union - said that about 800 union members working in industrial parks and clusters in the area will be supported with 1 million VND/case to overcome the consequences of this flood.
