Speaking at the meeting, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Xuan Hung said that on World No Tobacco Day 2026, the World Health Organization chose the theme "Exposing Fake Attractiveness - Action to Repel Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction".
This is a strong warning message for the global community, as the tobacco industry is constantly changing its approach to young people with more sophisticated and dangerous tricks.
Not only causing health damage, tobacco also causes particularly serious economic damage to the nation. This shows that preventing and combating the harms of tobacco is not only a medical issue, but also a matter of human development, social development and sustainable development of the country.
Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Xuan Hung emphasized that for the Vietnam Trade Union organization, taking care of and protecting the health of union members and workers is always an important task, a political responsibility and also a deep feeling of the Trade Union organization towards workers across the country.
According to Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Xuan Hung, in recent years, trade union levels have actively coordinated with the health sector, functional agencies, businesses and localities to implement many activities to build a smoke-free working environment. Promote propaganda and mobilize union members and workers to change their awareness and behavior and gradually form a healthy lifestyle in agencies, units and businesses.
Many models "Cigarettes without smoke"; "Cigarettes without smoke factories"; "Green - clean - safe workplaces" have brought positive changes, contributing to improving the working environment, improving productivity, quality of life and health of workers.
However, before the increasingly popular appearance of new generation nicotine products, we are still facing many difficulties and challenges. Many young workers still see e-cigarettes as a modern trend without fully recognizing the potential risks to physical health, mental health and their own future.
Therefore, more than ever, the Trade Union organization needs to continue to promote its pioneering role in the fight against the harmful effects of tobacco; building a civilized, safe and healthy working environment for union members and workers.
On behalf of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Xuan Hung requested trade union levels to continue to strongly innovate propaganda work in a close, practical and highly spreading direction. Strengthen the application of digital platforms, social networks and modern communication forms to raise awareness of union members and workers, especially young workers, about the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine.

At the same time, continue to build a smoke-free working environment at agencies, units, and businesses. Consider this an important criterion of a civilized, modern and humane working environment. A sustainable business must not only care about productivity but also the health and quality of life of employees.
Strengthen programs to support smoking cessation for union members and workers. Promote coordination with the health sector to provide counseling, health check-ups, treatment support and periodic health care for workers.
Each trade union official and each union member needs to become an inspiration for a healthy lifestyle, dare to say no to tobacco, dare to remind and mobilize relatives and colleagues to join hands in building a smoke-free living environment.
