Improve reporting skills on workers and unions

On the morning of October 8, in Thai Nguyen, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor held a press conference to inform about the situation of workers, trade unions and the Draft Law on Trade Unions.

Attending the Conference were Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Vu Thi Giang Huong - Head of the Propaganda Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Ms. Hoang Thu Hang - Vice President of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Confederation of Labor and reporters from nearly 40 news agencies and newspapers.

At the conference, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu informed about the new situation and propaganda orientation for workers and unions. In particular, the discussion focused on the contents related to promoting industrialization and modernization; deep international integration and compliance with international labor standards.

Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu discussed issues of employment, income, and life of a group of disadvantaged workers; the inadequate legal policy systems and the lack of strict compliance of a group of employers; the world geopolitical situation and its impacts on the supply chain.

"Key issues that need to be disseminated include inadequacies in policies related to workers, unions, employment issues; spiritual and material life, access to housing, social infrastructure; security and safety issues among workers and laborers... It is necessary to focus on issues of vocational skills, job conversion for workers; promote examples of good people and good deeds, activities to care for workers' lives, protect workers' rights; work to develop union members and establish grassroots unions. At the same time, focus on the fight to protect the Party's foundation and ideology, the position and traditional prestige of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor", the Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor emphasized.

Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu suggested that reporters regularly contact and exchange with the departments of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to grasp information; proactively approach ministries and branches to reflect policies; go to the grassroots to understand the lives of workers. In particular, it is necessary to "fan the flames of enthusiasm, share the joy of workers, and take care of the concerns that workers are facing".

Also at this Conference, delegates discussed issues related to workers' lives, social housing, and reducing working hours. Directions and plans to improve workers' lives. Contents related to the Draft Law on Trade Unions Amendment.

Previously, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized for reporters from nearly 40 press agencies to go on field trips to learn about the production situation and care for union workers' lives at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Corporation and visit some worker dormitories in the area.
