In early August 2025, in package 11 of Component Project 4, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway, the rain lasting more than 20 minutes affected the construction progress of overpass No. 27. Workers take shelter from the rain in temporary tents set up near the construction site. When it was just finished, they immediately returned to work.
Mr. Vo Hoang Kham, a worker working here, shared: "The rainy season is much more severe, every time it rains, we have to stop to ensure safety, and when finished, we work right away".
According to Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Truong Son Construction Corporation, Commander of Package No. 11: "Currently, the bridge items have met and exceeded the schedule. We are simultaneously deploying 12/12 bridges of the package, in which we strive to open the technical traffic of the two overpasses No. 27 and No. 34 in August 2025. The remaining 10 bridges on the route have completed the bridge deck and railings. However, the progress of the road is affected because the supply of sand materials is not guaranteed, the total progress of the entire route is currently about 45%. The volume of sand filling returned has reached 11/14.5km; sand loading combined with crushed stone leveling has reached 3.8/14.5km".
The Management Board of the Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project - the investor of the Component Project 2, 3, 4 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway project informed that the current progress of the bridge projects on the route has reached and exceeded the set schedule. However, the route has not met the required schedule due to the slow source of sand materials gathered at the construction site.
The investor is urgently directing consulting units and construction contractors to coordinate in surveying and conducting research to adjust design solutions and construction measures to shorten progress, striving to complete the project according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
Similarly, the working atmosphere at the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project is bustling because it is in the final stage. On the entire route, contractors have arranged 200 construction teams, mobilized 955 equipment and machinery and more than 2,100 technical workers to work day and night.
Ms. Huynh Ngoc Mai, a worker at the project, said: "Working this season is more difficult because the rain is muddy, motorbikes cannot move, and sometimes we have to stretch our hands. But everyone understands that this is a big project, so even though it is difficult, we still try.
Mr. Bui Thanh Tung, an engineer at Truong Son Construction Corporation, shared: "At this time, there is almost every rain. The unit has proactively arranged work appropriately according to the weather. When it rains, workers take advantage of the time to roll the roadbed, because the appropriate humidity helps the foundation to be firmer. At the same time, the weak foundation treatment method from traditional loading to using vacuum suction technology is changed to shorten the time.
In addition, the traffic safety system, median strip, fence, and corrugated iron are also being installed synchronously by construction units. Many contractors have increased shifts to make up for the progress affected by the weather".
At the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge construction site, the project connecting Vinh Long and Dong Thap, the construction atmosphere is equally urgent. Currently at the construction site, contractors are focusing on implementing important technical experiments such as measuring cable-stayed fluctuations, checking shock absorbers; installing traffic safety systems and lighting, to complete the technical traffic service as planned on August 19.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nha, a construction worker here, said: "We work continuously, there are days when it rains all day, but everyone hopes to complete it soon so that people can travel more conveniently".
According to the representative of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge Project Management Board, the unit currently maintains more than 35 construction teams with 350 workers, 70 technical staff and more than 100 equipment. As of July 31, all major items will be completed, 6 months ahead of schedule.
